Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Beldon PS has proudly been one of only four government primary schools in the northern suburbs of Perth to deliver the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program to students since 2012. A unique component of our curriculum, the program teaches children healthy habits for life, from how to grow fresh seasonal produce in our SAKG Garden, through to lessons on preparing delicious, nutritious food in weekly Kitchen classes.

Students are taught the skills necessary to plant, maintain and harvest fruit and vegetables from our garden, as well as having the responsibility of caring for our brood of chickens.

The students participate in weekly cooking lessons where they utilise the fresh, seasonal produce from our gardens to create healthy meals.

The Year 6 students then have the unique opportunity to showcase their skills obtained through this four year program by holding an evening working alongside one of the country’s top award winning chefs to prepare, cook and serve statement dishes to paying diners. The SAKG Dinner Under the Stars is an annual highlight of our term planner and something the whole community looks forward to each year.

Our very own Mrs Pashill even has her own YouTube channel with demonstrations and instructions of recipes cooked at school. We encourage parents to share the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden experience with their children by watching together, discussing and maybe even trying some of the recipes at home.
